What data is erased during a reinstall?

As a general rule, you should assume a reinstall can erase the existing system state and any locally stored data on the Mac unless the workflow specifically says otherwise. Reinstall processes are intended to reset the environment, not preserve it.

If you have anything important on the system, back it up elsewhere before you begin.

Never treat reinstall as a harmless troubleshooting step unless you are completely comfortable losing the current system state.
